BRING CHILDREN FROM STREETS
At Freedom Children’s Home Nsumba, orphaned and disadvantaged children find safety, care, and a chance at a brighter future. Here, every child receives nutritious meals, schooling, and medical attention, along with the love and support needed to thrive. Beyond the basics, children are encouraged to grow through sports, music, singing, crafts, and other creative activities that nurture both body and spirit.
The Home is located in Nsumba village, Mpigi District, about a 90-minute drive from Uganda’s capital, Kampala. It was established in 2014 with the generous support of Marianne Rieber. Since then, it has become a safe haven for children who have lost their parents or come from severely disadvantaged backgrounds, many originally from the Katanga slums. Today, the orphanage consists of seven buildings, including: Dormitories for children, Staff bedrooms, A kitchen and dining area, An office, A communal living room, Storage facilities, Sanitation blocks (toilets and bathrooms).
One of our primary goals is to make the orphanage self-sufficient in food production. To achieve this, the Home engages in agriculture and animal husbandry. The land currently produces maize, cassava, sweet potatoes, bananas, pineapples, tomatoes, and other vegetables We also keep a small number of cows, pigs, goats, and chickens. Through BCFSU’s support, we are working to expand and modernize these efforts. Our plan includes cultivating additional land, introducing new fruit and vegetable varieties, and streamlining current farming practices to increase yields. Achieving food self-sufficiency is vital for sustainability, reducing costs, and ensuring that every child at Freedom Children’s Home has consistent access to healthy, homegrown food.
The foundation is committed to providing orphaned and disadvantaged children with a safe, nurturing, and empowering environment where they can grow into healthy, educated, and responsible adults. Through care, education, and sustainable development initiatives, the foundation strives to break cycles of poverty, restore hope, and create opportunities for a brighter future.
The organisation will not only improve the well-being of individual children but also contribute to stronger families and more resilient communities. Its commitment to agriculture, skills development, and sustainability ensures that the benefits extend beyond the children to the wider society.
