BRING CHILDREN FROM STREETS
The Sewing Training Project in Katanga was established under the Bring Children From Streets Foundation to empower slum dwellers and former street children by equipping them with practical skills for a better future. Led by Director Richard Kiwanuka, the program focuses on turning disadvantaged youth into productive citizens and leaders of tomorrow. By offering vocational training, particularly in tailoring, the project gives young people the opportunity to transform their lives, overcome poverty, and pursue dignified livelihoods.
The training is conducted in Katanga, one of Kampala’s largest slums, where unemployment, drug abuse, crime, and poor living conditions remain pressing challenges. Through this initiative, many former street children and youth have already graduated with certificates in tailoring and other vocational studies. Graduates not only acquire valuable skills but also receive tools such as sewing machines, enabling them to create self-employment opportunities. The project has already helped many leave behind destructive habits such as drug abuse and prostitution, giving them a chance to build stable, independent lives.
The goal of the Sewing Training Project is to transform lives by empowering disadvantaged youth with skills that can generate income, promote self-reliance, and inspire positive change within their communities. Its mission is to reduce unemployment, fight poverty, and demonstrate that slum dwellers and street children have immense potential when given the right support. The program is sustained through the dedication of partners, sponsors, and well-wishers, with long-term plans to expand vocational training opportunities and reach even more vulnerable young people across Uganda.
The project is guided by objectives that focus on empowerment, transformation, and sustainability. By providing sewing training, the initiative aims to equip disadvantaged youth with practical skills that can lead to self-employment and improved livelihoods. The program also seeks to foster personal development, break cycles of poverty, and inspire hope for a better future among slum dwellers and former street children.
The Sewing Training in Katanga is expected to create lasting impact by transforming vulnerable youth into skilled, self-reliant individuals who can contribute positively to society. Graduates will not only improve their own lives but also support their families and inspire others in their communities. By reducing unemployment, drug abuse, and crime, the project strengthens the social fabric of Katanga while proving that even in the most difficult environments, people have the creativity and determination to succeed when given an opportunity. Over time, the project will help build a generation of empowered, productive citizens who can lead Uganda toward a brighter future.
